On 9 September 2025, in the unique setting of the Polish History Museum, a gala event was held to celebrate 25th anniversary of the Polish Power Exchange (TGE) and 15 years of operation of the Warsaw Commodity Clearing House (IRGiT). This unique gathering of business partners, employees and friends of the two organisations became a symbolic summary of the common path followed over the years and their crucial role in building a modern and secure electricity and gas market in Poland.
The gala was an exceptional opportunity to pay tribute to the vision, passion and determination which has evolved from what was initially humble conception into a solid pillar of the modern economy. Going beyond a mere celebration of individual achievements the event became a symbol of shared responsibility, effort and commitment to creating a modern and transparent market. The event was graced by the presence of, among others: Paulina Hennig-Kloska, Minister of Climate and Environment, Andrzej Domański, Minister of Finance and Economy, Renata Mroczek, President of the Energy Regulatory Authority, Grzegorz Onichimowski, President of the Management Board of Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne, and numerous distinguished guests connected with the industry.
A vast group of 38 people were honoured during the gala event, including both employees and business partners whose daily dedication, professionalism and unwavering confidence in the sense of effort have contributed to building a transparent and open exchange market. They have made it possible to create an environment conducive to innovation, fair competition and sustainable development, which today benefits businesses, consumers and the entire market community.
‘The history of TGE began with the bold vision and courageous decisions of a small group of people who developed the Exchange into one of the pillars of the country’s energy security. From the first experimental sessions to the launch of key segments – the spot and futures markets. Today’s gala is not only an event celebrating our 25 years of business, but also the right place and time to make a pledge to continue implementing innovative, effective solutions. Our goal is to support the development of the market and play an active role in the process of energy transformation’ said Piotr Listwoń, the President of the Management Board of TGE in his opening speech.
Over a quarter of a century, TGE has steadily expanded its offering, responding to the growing needs of the market and the challenges of the energy transition. Renewable energy, property rights and CO2 emission schemes, among others, were introduced to exchange trading, becoming an important element of the national support system and a key instrument in addressing climate change. At the same time, TGE has been actively involved in the integration with the European energy market. With the joining of the Single Day-Ahead Coupling (SDAC) and the Single Intraday Coupling (SIDC), participants gained access to shared resources and the Polish market became part of a larger, international energy trading structure. The integration has not only improved competition and price stability, but has also strengthened Poland's position in the European energy community, providing greater transparency and security of supply.
In turn, IRGiT, which is celebrating its 15th anniversary, plays a key role in ensuring the financial security of exchange market transactions and the stability of the entire system. Thanks to modern clearing mechanisms, market participants have access to advanced tools that not only guarantee the reliability of trading, but also minimise the financial risks associated with transactions. In practice, this means that investors and energy companies can operate in a robust and transparent environment, which in turn increases confidence in the market as a whole and supports its further development.
The House, in cooperation with TGE, is also introducing innovative instruments such as intraday auctions or 15-minute products, enabling flexible management of the energy system in the context of the growing share of renewable sources. First and foremost, however, behind the successes of both organisations are their people: the pioneers, successive leaders, experts and partners who, in cooperation with public institutions, have consistently developed the exchange over the years.
‘The 15 years of the Warsaw Commodity Clearing House have been a period of intensive effort to ensure the stability and liquidity of clearing. However, our mission is not over. In the coming years, we will focus on creating new solutions to meet the challenges of the dynamically changing electricity and gas market in Poland. We are committed to ensuring that they not only respond to the current needs of market participants, but also support the energy transition process, increase the security of trading and enhance the competitiveness of the entire sector. These are exactly the areas where we see our role and responsibility for the coming years’ said Łukasz Goliszewski, President of the Management Board of IRGiT, at the gala.
The development strategy of both companies is based on three pillars: institutional stability, product innovation and dialogue with market participants. As a result, the TGE Group is not only consistently strengthening its position in the country, but is also building a recognisable brand on the European arena, becoming an important partner in shaping the common energy market.
The anniversaries of TGE and IRGiT show that vision and partnership can become the foundation for the success of the entire economy. The ceremony at the Polish History Museum does not conclude the story, but opens yet another chapter, one in which we shape the energy market of tomorrow – together.
